    Deryl is the founder of Vance County Learning Center (501c 3) for “At-Risk” youth and young adults. Deryl and her husband bank-rolled and sacrificed themselves for this “grass-roots” school over 9 years ago. She has helped hundreds of young people gain self-worth and a great education, where public schools abandoned them.

    Oneta Bobbett is a survivor of domestic violence. Years ago she was fighting for her life as her abuser was beating and choking her. As a result, Oneta started a non-profit organization called Jadens Ladder. Jadens Ladder has been helping women and children of domestic violence for the past 8 years. They help with counseling, attorneys, and school so that the families seeking help are self-sufficient and safe. www.jadensladder.org

  • Angela Larkan

    Inspired after researching orphans and AIDS in South Africa, Angela Larkan founded Thanda, an organization geared towards developing sustainable solutions to ongoing issues in rural Africa. She then launched Thanda After School, supporting children in need and Thanda Zulu, providing jobs for individuals in income generation projects throughout Southern Africa. The project currently support 325 children and is working to bring hope to thousands more children as a model for community change. www.thanda.org

    Edwina Caito created Independence Park, Indiana’s first all accessible park and playground, for her son and his friends who were differently abled.   • Kim Johnson

    Kim runs a true non-profit wildlife sanctuary in Driftwood, Texas that provides rescue, rehabilitation and release of orphaned, injured, and displaced wildlife. Kim and her team care for animals in need to ensure they are safely released back into the wild after regaining strength and health.     Christina Zapata co-founded a non-profit branch, Project HEAL New Jersey Chapter a year ago. The branch has already raised $8,000 for the Help to HEAL Scholarship fund which goes to an individual in need to receive treatment for an eating disorder.     One Christmas Day, Janey Russell’s perfectly healthy 10 year old daughter woke up with a rare virus, placing her in the Children’s Hospital for 9 days, 7 spent in ICU. Out of gratitude for the support she received, Janey founded Shine On Tucson! to help children and their families navigate the trauma of a hospital stay.     Keenly interested in the welfare of children in developing countries, Loretta Jitner founded the non-profit Pencils for Kids, Inc. in 2008. PFK’s mission is to help children in developing countries attend school.     After Jessica Bhatia’s grandfather passed away 2 years ago in a small village in India, she started a charity called the Heart2Heart Charity Foundation to help low income patients in India pay for their heart surgeries.
